VMIPS also simulates the memory system (minus caches) and several
peripherals, including two different kinds of serial chip and a few
devices borrowed from the DECstation 5000/200.   See chapter 10 of
the manual ("Devices") for information about the peripherals VMIPS
supports.

I do not currently have any plans to extend VMIPS beyond the R3000,
but patches are always welcome.

The VMIPS manual does have some information on the internals of the simulator,
in chapter 11 ("Extending").
