[vmips] vmips, not benchmark compatible

Hi,

I might be able to take a look at this in more detail on the weekend -- I'm
pretty busy right now.

In the meantime, if your benchmark is pretty simple, you might be able to
make progress by linking it against the functions in lib.c and serial.c,
which you will find in vmips/sample_code/xmboot.  This gives you simple
implementations of functions like printf, which are designed to work
without booting an operating system on vmips.
